Kira wants to keep her land and rebuild her cottage and start to do her share to contribute to the community in the community, while Vandara and her friends want Kira in the field and her land to make an pen for their children. One conflict was an external conflict, Kira struggled against Vandara and her friends. Especially since she was suddenly left alone with no one to defend her, however she continued on not be embarrassed as the community misjudged her from the beginning to the end and slowly she made her reason to stay in the community instead of being in the field, which you would be considered dead to be there. But instead of letting herself down she was able to cope with it and instead take pride of her disability. She had been determine all since she was born, she was born with an twisted leg which stopped her from doing things that normal girls her age would do.
I think this book is really good because it is mainly about how determine Kira was to continue on from he trouble that stops her from arriving to her destination of her future. Keep reading, the way they are tied together is so worth it. You have to view The Giver and Gathering Blue as two entirely separate books it isn't until you read Messenger and Son, that they tie them altogether and start to repair the delicate balance in their world. Gathering Blue is the exact opposite there is a lot of pain, suffering, hunger, and lack of empathy. Throughout, The Giver, there is no pain, no hunger, but also no feeling or life. Lois Lowery, in the first two books is setting up that pain and compassion are vital to maintain balance, that both must exist in order for society to function. Much like The Giver, it takes place in a post-apocalyptic type society, however the main difference being, instead of an Utopian Society it is a Dystopian Society.
He is such a well written character and you can all but hear his voice coming out of the pages, he is adorable. I especially loved Gathering Blue for Matt. At the end of Gathering Blue the connection to The Giver is revealed and the connections just contiue and all tie together by the end of the last book Son. Gathering Blue is vital to tying them all together, even though it is not something you realize until you start reading the other books.
